eDPI Explained: How to Find the Right Mouse Sensitivity

DPI, in-game sensitivity, eDPI and cm/360 — what they mean and a simple method to find your own setting.

Key takeaways

  • eDPI = mouse DPI × in-game sensitivity.
  • cm/360 tells you how far to move the mouse for a full turn — it works across games.
  • Change one thing at a time and give yourself a few days to adjust.

Two players can use completely different DPI and sensitivity numbers and still have exactly the same aim feel. That is why competitive players compare eDPI and cm/360 instead.

DPI vs sensitivity

DPI (dots per inch) is a mouse setting: how many counts the sensor reports per inch of movement. Sensitivity is the in-game multiplier. Your real sensitivity is the combination of both.

What is eDPI?

eDPI = DPI × in-game sensitivity. 800 DPI at 0.4 sensitivity is 320 eDPI — the same as 400 DPI at 0.8. Comparing eDPI lets you compare settings with anyone playing the same game.

What is cm/360?

cm/360 is the distance your mouse travels to turn a full circle in game. Because it includes each game’s own “yaw” value, it lets you carry the same feel between different games. Lower cm/360 means faster turning; higher means slower and often steadier aim.

A simple method to find your sensitivity

  1. Start from a common range for your game (many tactical-shooter players land at a relatively low eDPI).
  2. Make sure you can turn 180° comfortably without lifting the mouse too often.
  3. Check that you can make small, precise adjustments on distant targets.
  4. Change in small steps (about 10%) and play several sessions before judging.

Changing DPI without changing feel

If you switch from 800 to 1600 DPI, halve your in-game sensitivity to keep the same eDPI. Our eDPI & Sensitivity Calculator does this for you and converts between games such as Valorant and Counter-Strike 2.
